The Grain Of Sand
Thousands of people flock to the beach and seashore every year and have no choice but to walk on sand. They bring their children, their dogs (for those beaches that allow them), play games, sunbathe, go swimming and go surfing. And in doing so, they walk on it, get it in their hair and and it sticks to the skin. It takes washing to get the grains out and sometimes it takes a while to do so. Sand can be very irritating, and it is normal to want to be rid of them.
Now sand is defined as this:
"A loose granular substance, typically pale yellowish brown, resulting from the erosion of siliceous and other rocks and forming a major constituent of beaches, riverbeds, the seabed, and deserts."
Granular substances are hard, a very coarse particle that is rough when touched. That is what sand is, even just one grain. It gets brushed off the body with indifference and with the attitude that it is not worthy to be a part of the individual. No one really thinks about that, they just want it off. It's ok to walk all over, but once done with that then there is no more use for this worthless substance.
People tend to make us feel that same way and because of that, sometimes we get to the place where we feel worthless, and even unworthy of the love and commitment that Jesus gave His life to show us. Many of us have been stepped on and used without a thought to our feelings, and then brushed off indifferently like we don't matter; they got what they wanted from us and we are no longer useful to them. We are made to feel insignificant; we are seen as nothing more than a tiny grain of sand, and we are treated like we irritate them causing them to push us off in an attempt to remove us from being such a bother to them. But they don't realize that in their pride and ignorance, they are blind to something much bigger...
Dr Gary Greenberg, scientist, inventor and photographer, one day using his microscope, took sand and put it under a 250x - 300x magnification. What he found revealed individual spectacular and beautiful treasures of different shapes, sizes and colors and set him on a course to find more in different parts of the world. The picture you see is one that he took with combined grains from Maui, Hawaii, Japan, California, Ireland, Bermuda, and Minnesota.
And that is how the Most High sees us. He saw our unformed bodies and when our bodies started to form [Psalm 139:13 - 16], even before the very first start of the DNA strand, He knew what His plans were for us and who we were, and who we are. [Jeremiah 29:11] Those plans never included seeing us as worthless but rather...worthy. And unlike those tiny little grain of sand that are seen with the untrained eye and are treated as nothing, Father treats us as the treasure that sand is, and that He sees in us. He takes us into His magnificent hands and like what Dr. Greenberg did with the sand, He magnifies us so that that uniqueness, that individuality, that beauty emerges and through His Son, His works may be seen within us.
He saw our true form from the very beginning and even if we feel we are unnoticed and useless in this world of seven billion people, realize that Father desires to bond with us and He sees us as USEFUL. Where there are those that find us irritating, Christ sees our potential to become like irrigation's to bring the beauty of His gift of Salvation to those barren and dry places, where His Life sustaining waters will never be depleted but be a constant never ending flowing river. And where in those times we have been stepped on and brushed off like we don't matter, He comes, picks us up and brushes us off because in His eyes, we DO matter.
The next time we get to that depressive state of mind where we feel low within ourselves or are dealing with hurt feelings from someone who treats us like we don't matter, causing us to entertain in our minds that we are nothing more than a grain of sand, remember that one tiny insignificant grain when magnified, is a beautiful treasure that is so very much worth something to our Creator, our Heavenly Father.
